The Nauticat 43 is designed by the famous boat designers Sparkman and Stevens. Nauticat is a classic quality boat from Finland and is well known all over the world for its solid design, uncompromising quality thinking and fantastic amenities. A so-called ”deck salon design” that means great freedom for the crew, partly because you can control the boat both from the inside and also out in the cockpit, but also the benefits of good visibility when you are inside the boat to avoid the ”basement feeling” you can experience in traditional sailboats. This makes Nauticat a perfect ”live aboard” boat that is very comfortable to both sail and live in for a longer period of time and in all climates.

This 43 foot Nauticat 43 was built in the years 1983/1984 and goes by the name S/Y Fleur de Mer. The size and the layout of the boat makes it an ideal boat for a couple or a family who are looking for an extremely comfortable sailboat, both for the Nordic climate but also for longer sailing trips in southern Europe or as a safe and secure long-distance boat for a long-distance sailing. In this boat you have all amenities as a large engine, large water- and diesel tanks, watermaker, solar panels, inverter, heater and also a portable air conditioning unit, a large kitchenette, 3 large double cabins, 2 toilets / bathrooms, Eberspächer diesel heater, easy access to engine and electrical installations etc. The ability to steer the boat both from the outside and the inside creates security in rough weather and provides great opportunities to use the boat significantly more than with many other boat types. The living areas are huge in this boat and it almost feels like you are in a holiday house when you come aboard.

The interior is classic tasteful lacquered wood as on the other well-known Nordic quality boat brands such as Swan, Hallberg-Rassy, Najad, Regina af Vindö and Malö.

This boat is from 1984 and has been upgraded in most more expensive areas such as rigging, sails, teak deck, dinghy with double aluminum bottom and with newer outboard motor, batteries and more. But the boat could do well with a little extra time and love on the maintenance of lacquered wooden surfaces in some places.

Until 2018, the boat had almost never sailed in salt water and for 10 years she was stored during the winter in a heated garage on land in Sweden. The current owner planned a sailing trip around Africa and therefore planned this long-distance sailing to areas where spare parts and service are very limited and difficult to obtain. The owner therefore invested a lot in getting the boat in top condition in terms of sails, rigging, engine and bought everything that could be needed in the form of extra spare parts, pumps and tools and everything is now stored in the boat, even extra propellers are available.

Prior to the planned sailing, the current owner also had to do an inspection of the rig, through-hulls, engine, drives, etc. All with approved results. However, the insurance company Pantaenius still demanded that standing and running rigging as well as through-hulls to be replaced, which also was done. All these upgrades are made by professional rigs- and craftsmen in 2019 and 2020. Thereafter, a new subsequent inspection was carried out on 18 January 2021.

New sails and folding overdrive propellers, Gori Prop, were also purchased during this time. All this is documented in the logbook (see pdf file) where previous and later ongoing service and upgrades that have been made are also documented. The current owner has also documented in this logbook planned jobs that will need to be done on an ongoing basis, which makes it easy for a new owner to get an overview of potential upcoming repairs and upgrades.

As for so many others, the Corona pandemic limited planned trips and S/Y Fleur de Mer never came out on the planned trip around africa in full. But they set off on a sailing round trip from Sweden to the Red Sea. The boat was then later sailed back to the Mediterranean and also made it to a number of different locations along the Mediterranean coasts of the African continent before arriving in Lagos in Portugal where she is now located in Lagos Marina. The owner has decided to sell S/Y Fleur de Mer as work take too much of his time and S/Y Fleur de Mer deserves to be used more than the owner at the present is able to.
